What do we know about the Holy Spirit?

He is a Person– Not a force or energy field.

He comforts, grieves. convicts, rebukes, guides, teaches, and fills Christians.

Acts 1: 4-5, 8-9

Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” ... But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.

What does “being filled by the Holy Spirit” mean?

Being filled means “thoroughly influenced”

According to the Word of God, Spirit-filling is for believers. (Eph 5: 18-20)

Why do we need the Holy Spirit in our life?

To remind us of who we are. (John 1:12, Gal 2:20)

To teach us on what to say. (Luke 12:11-12)

To remind us the freedom we have in Christ:

We live in freedom– Not in fear. (2 Cor 3: 17)

We live in freedom– Not in sin. (Romans 8: 1-2)

To guide us to the right path. (Isaiah 30:21)

So that we can be witnesses of Jesus. (Acts 1:8)

What is the “power” of the Holy Spirit?

The power of resurrection.

It is NOT a power that exalts one person above others.

He gives us the power to overcome. (Romans 8:11)

Mark 16:17-18

These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages... They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.

Acts 2:17

‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’
